Introduction & Principles
BassBench is a practice tracking platform for bass players. Our goal is to help musicians structure their practice process, document progress, and systematically pursue learning goals.
We are expressly NOT:
- A music streaming service
- A tabs or sheet music database
- A video hosting service
- A social media platform for copyrighted content
We ARE: A tool for personal organization of practice – comparable to a digital practice journal with links to freely available learning resources.
Linking Instead of Copying
All videos and external resources offered in our “Learning Goal Repertoire” are exclusively hyperlinks to third-party platforms such as YouTube.
What we do:
- ✓ Provide links to publicly accessible YouTube videos
- ✓ Open links in a new tab (no embedding)
- ✓ Credit the source (creator, platform)
What we do NOT do:
- ✗ Store video or audio files on our servers
- ✗ Embed videos (no iframes)
- ✗ Perform our own public reproductions
- ✗ Download or copy content
Legal basis: According to established case law from the German Federal Court of Justice (“Paperboy”, 2003; “Session-ID”, 2010) and the European Court of Justice (“GS Media”, 2016), linking to freely accessible content on the internet is generally permissible.
Official & Verified Sources
When curating learning resources, we prefer content from:
- Verified creators – Music teachers with their own YouTube channel
- Official industry channels – e.g., Thomann, Sweetwater, Fender
- Established music educators – e.g., Scott's Bass Lessons, BassBuzz
- Artist-owned channels – Official channels of musicians
This prioritization serves to ensure the legitimacy of linked sources to the best of our ability. We generally do not link to content that has clearly been uploaded without the rights holder's permission.
Respecting Access Restrictions
BassBench does not circumvent any technical protection measures:
- We only link to content that has already been made freely and publicly accessible by the creator
- We do not bypass paywalls or payment barriers
- We do not circumvent geo-blocking measures
- We do not extract content from protected areas
- We respect robots.txt and other technical access restrictions
If a video is removed or made private on YouTube, our link simply leads to nowhere – we do not store copies.
Factual Database
Our database contains the following types of information:
Factual data (not protected by copyright):
- Song titles – e.g., “Come Together”
- Artist names – e.g., “The Beatles”
- Genre classification – e.g., “Rock”, “Jazz”
- Difficulty level – Our own assessment
This data serves solely as a guide for the user's personal repertoire and is treated as purely factual metadata.
What we do NOT store:
- Song lyrics
- Tablature or sheet music
- Audio or video files
- Album artwork
- Protected portions of works of any kind

If you are the owner of linked content and wish to have the link removed, we offer a straightforward reporting process:
How to report content:
- 1. Send an email to damir.abdic@kickbench.com
- 2. Identify the affected link and your authorization

Disclaimer for External Links
Our website contains links to external third-party websites over whose content we have no control. Therefore, we cannot accept any liability for this external content.
The respective provider or operator of the linked pages is always responsible for the content of those pages. The linked pages were checked for possible legal violations at the time of linking. Illegal content was not identifiable at the time of linking.
However, permanent monitoring of the content of linked pages is not reasonable without concrete evidence of a legal violation. Upon becoming aware of any legal violations, we will remove such links immediately.
Note for international users: BassBench is operated from Germany and primarily follows German and EU law. We strive to comply with international copyright standards, including the DMCA for US users.
